CORAL SNAKE Micrurus tener (Baird & Girard, 1853) 

STATUS:  Rare

DOCUMENTED COUNTIES:  Dallas, Ellis, Hood, Somervell, and Tarrant

HABITAT:  Trinity River Bottoms, Mesquite Grand Prairie, Cedar-limestone Hills, and Western Cross Timbers

SUBSPECIES:  Texas Coral Snake M. t. tenere (Baird & Girard, 1853)

COMMENTS:  The Texas coral snake is vemonous and can be dangerous.  It has been found more commonly in limestone areas containing thick stands of juniper and Texas oak.
